Brown seaweed harvested along the Tanzanian coast

Turning underutilized brown seaweed into precise biological solutions.

The problem

Africa's coastlines carry vast stocks of brown seaweed that go unharvested — while farmers face depleted soils, costly imported inputs, and post-harvest losses that swallow a third of every crop.

Our response

So we built a zero-waste biorefinery. One local biomass, split by enzymes instead of harsh chemicals, becomes five biological products for crops, livestock, aquaculture and fresh produce. Nothing leaves the system.

About SAB

A new chemistry for a coastal bioeconomy.

SAB Biomanufactures converts underutilized brown seaweed from Tanzania’s coastline into high-value biotechnology products. We replace conventional chemical extraction with a cleaner enzyme-based process that drastically reduces water use, eliminates harsh solvents, and lowers emissions.

Our zero-waste biorefinery uses every part of the seaweed. Bioactive extracts power crop, livestock, aquaculture and food applications, while the remaining biomass is fermented into probiotic cattle feed. Nothing leaves the system.

01

Enzyme-based extraction

Cleaner, water-efficient biochemistry that replaces harsh alkaline processing and keeps the bioactives intact.

02

Zero-waste biorefinery

Every fraction of the seaweed is converted into value. What remains is fermented into probiotic cattle feed.

03

Circular by design

Locally sourced brown seaweed becomes a portfolio of crop, livestock, aquaculture and food-grade products.

Made in Tanzania

Built on local marine resources, advancing Africa’s blue economy and creating green coastal jobs.

Our technology

One biomass, a whole biorefinery.

An enzyme-based process unlocks the full value of brown seaweed — cleanly, efficiently, and with nothing left behind.

Stage 01 / 05

Locally sourced brown seaweed

Underutilized brown seaweed is collected along the Tanzanian coast, from stocks that would otherwise go unharvested — turning a neglected marine resource into coastal income.

01

Low-temperature enzymatic processing that preserves bioactive integrity

02

Drastically reduced water draw versus conventional alkaline extraction

03

No caustic solvents, and a correspondingly lower emissions profile

04

Every fraction routed to a product — a genuinely closed material loop

Crop Biostimulant

Proven across every stage of crop development, from root initiation and germination through to fruit quality and final yield. The seaweed extract improves root growth, nutrient uptake, drought tolerance and overall productivity.

Built for the people moving African agriculture forward.

Benefitsfor investors

A differentiated platform built for commercial scale, not just the lab.

  • Engineered for scalable manufacturing and practical deployment from locally sourced feedstock — five revenue lines off a single biomass.
  • Addressing the rising cost of imported agricultural inputs, tightening residue regulations, and the limits of existing chemical processing.
  • A growing African market with clear demand for affordable, locally made biological inputs.
Why SAB

Care built into the science.

A platform designed for people, planet and performance — in that order, and without trading any of them away.

01

Cleaner chemistry, on purpose

Enzyme technology protects the bioactives and the environment at the same time. The gentler route is also the better-performing one.

02

Science that solves real problems

Rooted in rigorous R&D, but measured against what actually changes for a farmer at the end of a season.

03

Value that stays on the coast

Underused local biomass, local processing, local jobs. Building coastal value chains rather than exporting raw material.

01

Affordable by design

Priced for accessibility across African markets, not just export buyers.

02

Climate resilience

Biostimulants and feed solutions that help farmers adapt to harsher seasons.

03

Africa's blue economy

Unlocking the value of marine biomass that currently goes to waste.

04

Women-led innovation

Built and run by a team advancing women's leadership in African biotech.
